My husband & I will be going to NYC Dec 16-19 for our 5 yr wedding anniversary, this is the first time either of us have traveled there . We are staying Midtown. We have tickets for a show Saturday night. I know some board members live there, so I was kinda hoping I could get some suggestions on some things. Any recommendations for dinner night of show( something by the Gershwin Theatre). Also, I do want to try and go to AGP while I am there, is there a time or day that is better than others? And is there something close that my DH could go to while I am there? Any other general suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't really know about many sites in NYC, but you might want to try the Metropolitan Museum of Art . My mom and I tryed to go there when we went to NYC to go to AGP, but we ran out of time because we were only there for one day. And for AGP, I would probably try to go during the day on Monday, since more people would be at work and it *might* be less busy. Or try going at night on Sunday, since it's a school night. Hope that helps!

Definitely go to AGP during the day on a weekday. Do not--I repeat, DO NOT attempt to go on a weekend, especially the weekend before Christmas. School hours are your best bet. The Nike Store is nearby, if your husband's into that. So is the NBC Store, and the Virgin Megastore is nearby on 7th Ave.
Mmm...food! The Playwright's Tavern is REALLY good, very close to the Gershwin (Wicked? ) not very fancy, but a nice New York-y sit-down restaurant. There's also a fancy Chinese restaurant on Bway and 49th that I've always wanted to try but never gone into. Can't remember the name, but it looks really nice and you can't miss it! Also, Ellen's Stardust Diner is a must, maybe not for pre-theater dinner, but sometime on your trip. The waiters and waitresses sing to you and perform!
Enjoy your trip, you'll have a great time. But remember to bundle up...it's been freezing lately. Any more questions, just ask! (If you can't tell, I love to talk about NY!)

My husband enjoyed his visit to the New York Public Library while the girls and I had our enchanted day at AGPNY this past July. It's maybe 15 blocks from AGP (or a short cab ride away). It's not just a library -- they have museum exhibits there as well. There's a cafe behind the library if he gets hungry or just wants a coffee. On the upper west side (in the 76th block or so, just across from Central Park) is the New York Historical Society. They always have interesting exhibits there; we saw one about Alexander Hamilton that was fascinating. That would definitely be a subway or cab ride away from midtown. Or he could walk the 30 or so blocks if her really wants to get his exercise!
Have a ball at AGPNY! It is truly a magical place to visit!

Ahhh Manhattan - Ok - Restraunts - Fancy with Good foor - Beccos or Orso's Both are on Restraunt Row. 47th between 7th and 8th Ave - Right in the theater district. Your concierge should be able to get you reservations. Fancy and romantic but with Eh food is Tavern on the Green - Pricey but if you want to look at Central Park it is nice.
Go to Ag Place. Saint Patricks is wonderful even if you aren't Catholic - It is wonderful Architecture.
The Met as well as The Gugenheim are both wonderful places to Visit. A short Ferry ride away is Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty (You won't be able to go up however)
I will have to let you know anything else I can think of.
HAve fun

Definitely go to AGPNY on Monday during school hours if you can. My mom when to AGPNY last year to get me some Birthday presents and she says it was a mad house as soon as the schools got let out.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. There are so many things we want to do, I know we won't be able to do everything. The Met is on our list bu thanks for confirming my thought that there is no way we can see everything there. I'm sure I will think of more questions. As usual this board is very friendly and a wealth of knowledge.

I highly recommend the Tenement Museum. (http://www.tenement.org/). It's an excellent history museum.
